When persons with diabetes use miscoded blood glucose meters to determine how much insulin to take, significant errors in insulin dose can result that may potentially lead to short- and long-term health complications, according to findings of a new study presented at the Sixth Annual Diabetes Technology Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia.

Bayer Diabetes Care today announced findings from a study showing that miscoded blood glucose meters can be very inaccurate with median errors as great as 48%.

Peter Hoogenboom, a 46 year-old cyclist with diabetes on a 10,000-mile U.S. bike tour to spread awareness of diabetes will be at the American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE) annual meeting in Los Angeles, August 10-11 to discuss how athletic training, along with proper diabetes management, allows him to complete multiple cycling challenges.
