Blood Glucose Monitoring Systems
Bayer also offers a variety of systems for healthcare professionals, people with diabetes and care givers to monitor a person’s blood sugar. In addition to the NEW Ascensia® BREEZE®2 blood glucose multi-test monitoring system and the IMPROVED Ascensia® CONTOUR® blood glucose monitoring system, Bayer also offers the following single-strip devices in certain markets: Ascensia® BRIO, Ascensia® CONFIRM, Ascensia® ELITE, Ascensia® ELITE XL, and Ascensia® ENTRUST.
Lancing Devices
Bayer offers various types of lancing device to draw blood and conduct a test. For self-testing, Bayer offers the Ascensia® MICROLET® and Ascensia® MICROLET® VACULANCE. Both devices use the same narrow gauge lancet for less painful piercing and for Alternate Site Testing (AST). The Ascensia® MICROLET® lancing device won the Business Week design of the year award for most innovative design when it was introduced in 1999.
Diabetes Management Software
Besides taking a reading and storing the results using a blood glucose monitoring system, Bayer offers a computer software package to enable people with diabetes and care givers to download test results from the meter to a personal computer to analyze the data and take a more active role in managing the disease. The Ascensia® WINGLUCOFACTS® software has user-friendly charts and graphs to help the user find patterns in blood glucose results in order to adjust nutrition, exercise and medication for better diabetes management and in turn, a healthier life. Ascensia® WINGLUCOFACTS® is available in German, English, Spanish, French and Italian.
Bayer provides a Healthcare professional version of the software, which provides additional information to this group and allows the use of the software for multiple users. Ascensia® WINGLUCOFACTS® PRO has Data Wizard®, an “intelligent” data function that interprets results and finds patterns, giving the Health care professional valuable information for better treatment of diabetes. The Ascensia® WINGLUCOFACTS® PRO is available in English.
Noteworthy features of the Bayer systems include:
No Coding (Automatic Calibration):
This feature makes testing easier and more accurate. It eliminates the steps required to calibrate the blood glucose meter to the test strips manually, thereby avoiding the possibility of inaccurate readings caused by incorrectly coded blood glucose meters. The No Coding feature is available with the CONTOUR® & BREEZE®2 Blood Glucose Monitoring Systems.
Alternate Site Testing:
Many of the Bayer systems are cleared for testing on less sensitive or painful parts of the body as opposed to the finger tips, such as the forearm and palm. Testing on other parts of the body is not right for all people with diabetes; please talk to your healthcare professional before adopting this technique.
